Frequently Asked Questions
What differentiates your services from a learning center downtown?
At My ELL Coach, you receive immersive 1-to-1 sessions with a TEFL certified, native-level English proficient articulatory coach. Clients residing beyond the areas listed in the footer may either commute to a designated location or receive the same professional coaching online. In both cases, every hour is dedicated exclusively to you. Whereas learning centers distribute one tutor's time across multiple students (often at varying learning levels), My ELL Coach dedicates your time to your specific vocal communication goals. Your individualized sessions are provided by a high-demand, native-level English proficient professional.
English is my second language and I am fluent. But I am not always understood at work or in social settings when I speak and I don't know why. Can you help me?
Yes, we can. It is not uncommon for fluent ESL learners to pass written exams and still not be clearly understood when speaking English. Helping others being understood audibly -especially at work- is our primary purpose. An oral assessment can pinpoint problem areas to establish a starting point for your tailored sessions. We then introduce speech exercises designed to elevate your English fluidity. Your native-level English proficient and certified TEFL coach helps you apply these best practices in oral communication.
Do you offer discounted group session?
We do have a Corporate Collaborative tier currently in its pilot stage. Group sessions are collaborative and so negate our standard 1-to-1 concierge individualized offering. The group coach is equally qualified. If you are the designated representative of a business, corporation, university, church or other non-profit with at least 5 participants, you may qualify for group sessions and a possible per-participant discount when paid in advance. Additional qualifying metrics must first be met. Submit your request and My ELL Coach will email you the pre-qualifying check list and answer any other questions you may have.
Can I schedule a free consultation?
Though we do not offer free consultations per se, we are happy to answer any questions you may have.
In the near future, we expect to be able to provide a 15 minute or 30 minute video consultation via a third party platform. However, presently, please use the Contact Us page to submit your questions about our language coaching service.
No, we do not. An exception would be a high school senior who is 18 years old. Our clients must be 18 years of age or older, in compliance with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Our immersive language programs are designed for adults who can converse in English but have difficulty being understood by others when they speak English, especially within work environments.
What is the difference between an ESL teacher and an ELL coach?
A book could be written on that subject, so understand this to be a very brief response. The standard they both share is a Bachelor's degree. The differences have to do with their regulatory oversight, focus, teaching environments and legal standing. A teacher is licensed by the state, teaches in a classroom and instructs students so they can pass the state's standardized written exam. State licensure is mandatory for public school employment. A coach is professionally credentialed, or TEFL certified [Teaching English as a Foreign Language] and works in a private practice, online, or abroad.
